White Shirt Day: What It Means To You
On Tuesday, February 11, 2025 Newsline Committee member Monica Jones helped members celebrate White Shirt Day. This event honored the Great Flint Sit-Down Strike that resulted in the first contract between GM and the UAW. As members shared cake provided by the Education Committee they were asked about the importance of White Shirt Day. Not all of those responding can be featured here but we appreciate those that took the time to share their opinions and perspective of what that day means to them. Below are a few of these responses….
Q: If you could personally thank one of the Flint Sit-Down strikers of 1937 what would you say to them?
Camilla Woodson: I would like to say Thank You so much for fighting the good fight and making things a lot easier for us here in 2025!
Q: Why do yo think it’s important to continue honoring White Shirt Day?
James Finley: I think it’s important to honor the people that sat down on White Shirt Day to show them we respect and appreciate all the things they sacrificed for us.
Q: Do you think the Flint strikers of 1937 knew they were making history?
Carol Johnson: Yes, they knew they were making history. So yes, thank you!
