Chevy Colorado History: From Barely Necessary to Unbeatable…
AutoEvolution shares a history lesson of the Chevrolet Colorado in From Barely Necessary to Nearly Unbeatable….
Twinned with the GMC Canyon, the Chevrolet brand’s Colorado is the second best-selling midsizer in the United States of America. How did it get here? To answer that question, we first have to rewind back to 1972, the year that Chevrolet introduced the LUV.
Be that as it may, the Colorado and Canyon are increasingly popular among truck buyers. General Motors reported 71,081 deliveries for the Colorado and 22,458 for the Canyon for calendar year 2023, meaning that GM was the closest automaker to Toyota in the mid-size truck segment. This also applies to 2024, during which both the Colorado and Canyon improved by tremendous percentage points.
The calendar year-to-date improvements are 37.9 and 70.2 percent, respectively, for a grand total of 136,227 midsizers compared to 192,813 for the redesigned Tacoma. As long as General Motors doesn’t hike up MSRPs like crazy in the following period, the 31XX-2 twins are expected to keep their rightful place in the mid-size pickup truck pecking order.
