Rejpulican State Senators Just Repealed Paid Sick Leave

Last night, Republican State Senators repealed the Paid Sick Leave that Missourians voted for last November.  The UAW endorsed Proposition A which raised the minimum wage and created a statewide Paid Sick Leave program received 58% of the vote, including wins in numerous Republican districts. The Missouri practice of passing good legislation through referendum and then voting for politicians that oppose that issue came back to cost us with Paid Sick Leave.  The following is a statement from Jobs With Justice…

The Missouri Senate passed HB 567 – a direct attack on working people and the paid sick time that voters approved with Proposition A this past November.

1.6 million Missourians voters passed Proposition A to  raise the minimum wage and guarantee earned paid sick leave for Missourians. Already this year, nearly 440,000 Missouri workers saw their wages increase, and on May 1st, 1 in 3 working parents became newly eligible for paid sick time.

Despite the overwhelming support for Prop A in November, and the hundreds of thousands of workers who benefit from earned paid sick time, some politicians in Jefferson City – led by corporate lobby groups putting profits over people launched multiple attacks against Proposition A and our paid sick win. This was a direct assault on working people and our democracy.
