Yes, Holiday Pay Is On The Way
From the Bargaining Committee….
THE COMPANY HAS CHANGED THEIR STANCE ON THE PAYING OF HOLIDAY PAY FOR THE UPCOMING CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY PERIOD (DEC 24, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31)!!!
On Oct 22nd, the Shop Committee asked Management for their interpretation of how Par. 208 and 209 of the National Agreement apply to our Members during the upcoming layoff. At that time they had no answer, said they would do research and let us know.
On Nov 5th, Management informed the Shop Committee that because the upcoming layoff was not due to a reduction in force, but rather it is due to model change/plant rearrangement that Par 209 would apply and our laid off Members would not be eligible for Holiday Pay. That is the information we have been sharing with everyone.
Now on Dec 2nd, 2 days before the scheduled layoff, Management has changed their stance and decided that even though Par. 209 applies for the type of layoff we are facing, they are going to go ahead and pay Holiday Pay to employees otherwise eligible, regardless of layoff status.
Although we obviously fully support our Members getting Holiday Pay, we also understand how frustrating it can be to receive information and have it change at the last minute.
We will continue to push Management to do what is best for this Membership and continue to share information as we get it.
