Did You Say Profit Sharing?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are a new member or one with a little frame wax under your fingernails a big profit-sharing check is always welcome.\u00a0 You should know that those checks are not willingly given by the company.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, in 1958 the company worked with politicians to fight the profit-sharing proposal put forward by UAW President Walter Reuther.\u00a0 This proposal was even subject to a nationwide TV interview of Reuther by Mike Wallace.\u00a0 It was a different world back then but that victory has meant thusands of dollars a year to autoworkers.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TVtXB0P5P9Q\">Watch the interview here and learn how it happened<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>UAW President Walter Reuther on his proposal for profit sharing for workers and consumers, interviewed by Mike Wallace, Jan. 25, 1958. The interview deals primarily with Reuther&#8217;s proposal, whether it is &#8220;socialism,&#8221; and his views on the economy. There are references to the Cold War, Sputnik, automation, and presidential politics (and a spat with John L. Lewis). The video is in two parts. Cigarette ads are included.
