{"id":6037,"date":"2021-12-13T19:58:34","date_gmt":"2021-12-14T01:58:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uawlocal2250.net\/live\/?p=6037"},"modified":"2021-12-13T19:58:34","modified_gmt":"2021-12-14T01:58:34","slug":"amazon-shows-we-need-stronger-labor-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uawlocal2250.net\/live\/index.php\/2021\/12\/13\/amazon-shows-we-need-stronger-labor-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Shows We Need Stronger Labor Laws"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hill features <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/congress-blog\/labor\/585491-the-nlrb-decision-against-amazon-was-correct-and-shows-the-need-for\">The NLRB decision against Amazon was correct and shows we need stronger labor laws.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In a closely watched decision last month, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2021\/11\/29\/amazon-warehouse-union-revote\/\"><span class=\"s1\">ruled that Amazon had cheated in order to defeat a high-profile union organizing campaign<\/span><\/a>: the company violated federal labor law during its anti-union campaign at a warehouse in Bessemer, Ala., earlier this year and thus\u00a0will\u00a0soon\u00a0face a\u00a0do-over\u00a0election.\u00a0The NLRB\u00a0attacked\u00a0Amazon\u2019s\u00a0\u201cflagrant disregard\u201d for federal union election rules, writing that management \u201c<span class=\"s2\">essentially highjacked the process and gave a strong impression that it controlled the process.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The NLRB was absolutely correct to overturn the Bessemer election, which was fundamentally tainted by Amazon\u2019s conduct.\u00a0But what the Bessemer campaign really demonstrates is that the NLRB desperately needs stronger remedies at its disposal. The law as it stands is too toothless to rein in an enormously powerful, incredibly wealthy and repeatedly unlawful corporate bully.
