The point of that rally was the creation of a new congressional map that would eliminate a Democratic representative from the Kansas City area.  Despite that fact that Missouri voted 40% Democratic in the last presidential election this new map would leave Missouri with 7 Republican seats and 1 Democratic seat.  Democracy Docket details the fight back in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/missouri-redistricting-referendum-has-enough-verified-signatures-for-the-ballot-organizers-say\/\"> Missouri redistricting referendum has enough signatures for the ballot<\/a>&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Efforts to oppose a Trump-backed gerrymander in Missouri cleared a major milestone Monday, when pro-voting activists announced that they had logged enough signatures to put the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/missouri-gov-signs-extreme-gerrymander-ballot-initiative-crackdown-into-law\/\">new congressional map<\/a>, which favors the GOP, to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/missourians-could-block-the-gop-gerrymander-with-a-referendum-vote\/\">statewide vote<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Opponents of the gerrymander had already gathered more than three times the needed signatures, but Republicans have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/in-missouri-redistricting-battle-gop-wants-to-lose-slowly-enough-to-win-opponents-say\/\">slow-walked<\/a>\u00a0the signature verification process and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/missouri-secretary-of-state-erects-new-hurdle-for-peoples-veto-of-gop-gerrymander\/\">thrown<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/missouri-volunteers-say-they-were-harassed-by-paid-gop-canvassers-its-likely-the-same-group-accused-of-forging-signatures-in-utah\/\">every<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/missouri-ag-launches-last-ditch-immigration-probe-into-referendum-that-threatens-gop-gerrymander\/\">imaginable<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/missouri-court-rewrites-biased-ballot-question-on-gop-gerrymander\/\">hurdle<\/a>\u00a0in the path of the referendum.
