That Time Wentzville Made A Truck For The Super Bowl MVP
UAW Local 2250 will always be connected to Tom Brady, Malcolm Butler, and the Super Bowl. It’s true. We made a Chevrolet Colorado for the 2015 Super Bowl Most Valuable Player… Tom Brady. This headlne tells the story, kind of….
Malcolm Butler’s goal-line interception gives Pats Super Bowl XLIX title.
Okay, maybe not the whole story. Despite the goal line interception by Butler, it was Tom Brady that was awarded the honor of MVP. A trophy was not the only prize for being the MVP. Mr. Brady was also awarded a brand new, red, 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Car and Driver has the play-by-play of Tom’s interview at a local radio station and what he decided to do in Tom Brady Giving Super Bowl Truck to Malcolm Butler…
“You think we can convince you to give him the truck? Or are you gonna sell that for Best Buddies? What are you going to do—I can’t see you driving around in a red truck,” the hosts implore just one minute into the radio interview.
“I would love to give him the truck,” he said. “I would love to do that. I’m going to figure out how to make that work.”
He did figure it out but it turns out Malcolm Butler didn’t like red and asked if he could get a black Colorado. The powers that be agreed and the order for the new truck came to the plant. The truck came to K-line on third shift. Mike Pyatt, Paul Fey, and I were the repair team that night. The truck made it down the line with no problems and I assume made it to Malcolm. I hope he enjoyed the truck and for all we know could still be drinving it. He will need dependable transportation as he enters the next chapter in his life – retirement. The Boston Globe tells all with Former Patriots cornerback and Super Bowl hero retires.
The 34-year-old cornerback, who made the game-saving play in Super Bowl XLIX when he picked off Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on the goal line, told Houston television station KPRC over the weekend that he was happy with everything he accomplished in his career.
“I am retired,” Butler said. “I did the best I can do. Walking away from the game feeling comfortable. Everybody can do more, but I’m satisfied with my career. It’s time to move on and transition.”
So tell your kids, grandkids, and co-workers. Even the Super Bowl MVP Award is connected to the UAW and the Wentzville Assembly Center!
