If you are a new member or one with a little frame wax under your fingernails a big profit-sharing check is always welcome. You should know that those checks are not willingly given by the company. As a matter of fact, in 1958 the company worked with politicians to fight the profit-sharing proposal put forward by UAW President Walter Reuther. This proposal was even subject to a nationwide TV interview of Reuther by Mike Wallace. It was a different world back then but that victory has meant thusands of dollars a year to autoworkers.
