This UAW Legend Died 54 Years Ago Today
The man that helped organize the Flint Sit-Down Strike, create the Arsenal of Democracy with his idea to convert auto plants to war production, model grievance procedures, Health and Safety provisions, pensions, health benefits, and Supplemental Unemployment Benefits (SUB) died in a plane crash. Walter Reuther served as President of the UAW for 23 years. He was even selected as Man of the Year by TIME magazine – an enormous accomplishment for a labor leader in a Capitalist society. This short video, Remembering Walter, is a look at one of the most important leaders of the American labor movement. Enjoy and think about how things would be different if Walter were here. Think about the difference you can make!
