Tesla Pay Leak: GM and Ford Workers Make More Than Tesla Workers

The leak is real! Business Insider brings us Tesla Workers Still Make Less Than GM and Ford Workers, Even After Raises. OF course, the raises were given AFTER the historic stand-up strikes by the UAW against the Big 3.

Tesla recently gave some of its factory workers raises, but union-represented workers at Detroit’s Big Three will still make a lot more per hour.

According to internal documents reviewed by Business Insider, new pay guidelines for Tesla workers were implemented on January 8. Factory workers at Tesla now make anywhere from $22 to $39 an hour, according to the documents.

Could it be because Tesla generates less revenue per employee than GM and FORD?

Tesla reported almost $97 billion in revenue last year, equivalent to just under $690,000 for each of its over 140,000 employees.

By comparison, General Motor (GM.N), opens new tab generated over $1 million in revenue for each of its 163,000 employees in 2023, and Ford Motor (F.N), opens new tab raked in $937,000 for each of its 173,000 workers.

But then, why would Tesla CEO Elon Musk be given such high compensation that a judge ruled it was illegal as reported by the Center for Economic and Policy Research.

A Delaware state court judge ruled that the $56 billion pay package awarded to Elon Musk by Tesla’s board of directors in 2018 was illegal. The gist of the ruling was that the board was composed of people who were close friends or relatives of Musk. The judge ruled that they gave him an outlandish compensation package, based on targets that they knew would be easily reached. She therefore threw out the contract.

It sure seems like Musk may be the real example of Lords and Peasants despite his claims that unions created that situation. When even the courts can’t justify a $56 BILLION compensation package while your workers make less than others in the same industry, no amount of tweeting will change that reality.
