Truth: Management Also Benefits From a Union
The previous post on this site provided an example of how a union could help workers from being unjustly fired through the protections of the Just Cause clause. As this story from CBS News demonstrates it would have also saved the man doing the firing from having to apologize by saying “I blundered”.
If the employees of Better.com had been union they could have used the grievance system to ensure they got their jobs back if their terminations were not justified. Of course, the management could voluntarily return their workers to the company.
What do you think is the better solution: Hope for mercy from the boss or a system that hinges on Just Cause not Just Because?
Better.com CEO Vishal Garg is apologizing for having fired 900 workers at the mortgage company earlier this month in a video call, saying he “blundered.”
Garg has faced a backlash on social media after video leaked of his December 1 firing of 9% of the company’s workers, which he blamed on issues such as the market and productivity. The company had asked the employees to participate in a Zoom call, during which he informed the attendees that they were dismissed effective immediately.
