Union workers typically earn higher wages and have better benefits than nonunion workers. For example, in 2022, the median weekly earnings for union members were $1,216, compared to $1,029 for nonunion workers.

Here are some other differences between union and nonunion compensation:

  • Wages: Union workers earn 11.2% higher wages than nonunion workers on average.
  • Benefits: 96% of union workers have employer-provided health insurance, compared to 69% of nonunion workers.
  • Wage increases: Union workers receive larger wage increases than nonunion workers.
