This Is Why Unions Help All Workers
Almost any story about unions on social media will generate comments both pro and con. Lost in all these is a stubborn economic fact – that unions help all workers. While numerous studies prove this point, today’s news will be the focus of this post. Electrek just published Tesla raises wages at Giga Berlin amid union push. While the headline makes the point that these Tesla workers are benefiting from the fact that the union has just showed up. They are getting a raise and they are not even union yet!
IG Metall district manager Dirk Schulze commented on Tesla’s announcement:
“Any wage increase is welcome, especially since pay at Tesla continues to lag well behind the tariff level in the auto industry in Germany. However, unilateral announcements of wage increases by a company management do not replace negotiations on equal terms.”
It sounds like it’s not the end of the showdown between Tesla and IG Metall.
