Walter Reuther Commemorative Postage Stamp |
The Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee recommends twenty to twenty-five stamp subjects to the United States Postmaster General each year. Because of his significant impact on American history, we are urging them to produce a stamp in honor of Walter Reuther.
On May 9, 1970, Walter Reuther, the longest-serving leader of the UAW, lost his life in a tragic plane crash. Reuther is quoted as saying, “There is no greater calling than to serve your fellow man. There is no greater contribution than to help the weak. There is no greater satisfaction than to have done it well.” These words personify the extraordinary life and work of Walter Reuther, and his legacy lives on in the lives of all Americans who benefit from his contributions to society.
