Yes, GM Should Pay Competitive Wages
Reuters has the details of an automaker paying competitive wages in Stellantis Offers French Workers Bonus Payment For Inflation. Remember when GM took advantage of the bailout to demand workers take pay cuts to be “competitive”. Just like a telephone, competitiveness works both ways and it’s time for GM to keep up and shell out a “inflation bonus’. Maybe a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) would do the job…
Stellantis said on Tuesday it would provide financial support worth up to 1,400 euros ($1,350) to most of its employees in France to help them cope with surging inflation and would soon discuss a similar move in Italy.
As part of its initiative, Stellantis will also bring forward salary negotiations in France, initially scheduled for the start of next year, to December, the carmaker said after talks with unions.
