What If Our Wages Reflected The Offer From Delta Airlines To Pilots?
Yesterday we looked at what our wages would look like if our next agreement mirrored the railroad workers latest settlement. Today, lets do the same with the recentlly announced offer from Delta airlines to their pilots. Yahoo News has the story – Delta Air Lines offers pilots a new contract as potential strike looms…
if the deal is approved, the agreement could serve as a benchmark for pilots at United Airlines and American Airlines.
Reuters reports the agreement gives Delta pilots an immediate raise of at least 18% on the date the contract is signed. The pilots would receive another 5% raise after one year, 4% after two years, and 4% after three years.
The top scale at GM for a production workers is $32.32. Now let’s run the Delta percentages with our wage rate.
18% at time of signing would be $32.32 x 18% = $5.81. $32.32 + $5.81 = $38.13 per hour at time of ratification.
At one year the raise would be $38.13 x 5% = $1.90. $38.13 + $1.90 = $40.03
At two years the raise would be $40.03 x 4% = $1.60. $40.03 + $1.60 = $41.63
At three years the raise would be $41.63 x 4% = $1.66. $41.63 + $1.66 = $43.29 per hour for the last year of the agreement.
The article provides other details of the agreement such as the signing bonus. Would you support an agreement with figures like these? The UAW/GM national agreement expires in September, 2023.
